Our Maternity Session
June 25th, 2019
I stepped outside my comfort zone and tried something new again, this time with my wife (and soon to be child)! We are expecting our first child in July, but wanted out maternity photos to be a little bit special so we decided to do them ourselves!
We went to a great little park by our house that had everything we wanted to have some variety in the pictures. There was a small grassy open area, a nice bridge and a big dock to give us a lot to work with for our ideas. We went during the golden hour to utilize a less harsh light and still get some good shadows where needed.
It was great to push myself to try a new style of photography and also capture a deeply meaningful and emotional moment for both my wife and myself. Doing them on our own allowed us to experiment with ideas, try various poses but most importantly go at our own pace and just enjoy the experience.
We spent a few days looking up poses we liked and ideas to work with. I also took this opportunity to purchase a new remote shutter release I had been eyeing for some time. This allowed me to take pictures of both of us together and not just my wife by herself.
Overall I am happy with how these turned out. It gave me a lot of ideas I hope to use on other couples and expand my business offerings. I learned a few new things and most important above all else is my wife was happy with the end results!
